I see on your package that your pasta contains
folic acid. What is folic acid?
- The Encyclopedia Britannica defines
folic acid as "Organic compound essential to growth and
health and needed by bacteria as a growth factor. Part of the
vitamin B complex, folic acid is necessary for synthesis of
nucleic acids and formation of the heme component of hemoglobin
in red blood cells. To prevent neural tube defects in babies,
it should ideally be taken by the mother starting at least a
month before conception."
Is pasta
a side dish or meal?
- As stated above pasta is a complete
meal in itself, however it can also be used as a side dish.
Whatever your diet, remember to include pasta. It is low fat
and provides many essential nutrients needed in daily life.
The Food Guide says to emphasize on grain products. Many people
have used a pasta salad as a side dish at a Bar BQ, but have
also had a plate of Spaghetti and Sauce for a family meal. The
choice is yours!
